We’re all seeing the devastating effects from Hurricane Harvey in Houston, Texas. Rescuing people is super important and it is incredible to see so many faces jumping in to help. Also on the radar is saving animals, because many are stranded and helpless as well. We’ve read and seen numerous stories of people who have stepped in to save furry little friends of all kinds, and it warms our hearts! Here are a couple amazing examples of what’s being done in the community to help them out.
Many have chosen to rescue bats from the recent flooding. Why bats you say? Typically their nesting areas are high above where water damage would enter. This time though, the water rose much higher and much faster than anticipated. Bats who had been nesting under bridges found themselves in jeopardy due to the water level reaching the tops of these bridges. Bat World Sanctuary took on the task of scooping the trapped bats out from under bridges, and treating their injuries with emergency fluids, food, electrolytes and antibiotics. In only one night their team rescued over 200 bats, and were able to release over half back after treating them. Famous vlogger Jake Paul recently got in on the hurricane action too. Traveling from California to the scene, he and a group of friends made the noble choice to step in and aid in the rescuing process. Taking his social media fame and using it to help spread awareness and encourage others to help in any way possible is truly an applaudable decision. His time spent there consisted of driving trucks around, hopping on jetskis and going out to rescue not only people, but animals from the depths of the flooding. One of which was a precious little white doggy. Their mission included taking the adorable puppy to safety after it had been saved from the flooding. You can see this clip as well as footage of all his Harvey ventures on his Facebook. Much respect goes out to everyone who is helping those in need after these devastating effects. The BRH team could not be more proud!
